ISLAMABAD: On social media, a doctored tweet circulating about the US and Pakistan forging a formal agreement for the latter's airspace to conduct military and intelligence operations in Afghanistan has gone viral.
"The Biden administration has told Congress that the US is reaching a formalised arrangement with Pakistan for use of its airspace to undertake military and intelligence operations in Afghanistan, sources claim," according to the phoney tweet.
It appears that the United States and Pakistan are now discussing this issue. It is crucial to note, however, that the screenshot being disseminated does not include the date.
CNN first reported the article on October 23, 2021, which was also posted on their official Twitter handle with the time stamp and date specified, and the Pakistan Foreign Office commented at the time, noting that "no such understanding between the two countries was in place."
